The All Important Allintitle

So many marketers don’t use the allintitle when running keyword research either because they don’t know about it or just don’t want to bother doing it.

What the allintitle does is it checks how many web pages have an exact keyword phrase in the title. There is no way that you can determine how competitive a chosen keyword or keyword phrase is unless you know how many people are using that keyword or keyword phrase. Using the allintitle will help you determine how competitive and profitable your keyword will be.

Keep in mind the less competitive a keyword is, the easier it is to get a high ranking on the search engines and the more profitable you will be. If you are using a keyword that 10,000,000 others are using you will have very little chance if any at all of being found and the chances of making money with what you are selling will be a lot harder because there will be too many others selling the same product as you.

Here’s how to determine whether or not your keywords will be too competitive or not. Of course you will have to get a list of your keywords before you can do anything at all. You can run keyword searches using the yahoo keyword tool or the new free wordtracker tool. I’d use the yahoo tool if it’s working because the yahoo tool gives you results by the month where wordtracker gives you them by the day. You can still determine approximately how many clicks a month by multiplying the daily number by thirty days.

  • Yahoo Keyword Tool http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion
  • Free WordTracker Keyword Tool http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com
  • Copy and paste the keywords that you find into an excel spreadsheet or any comparable spreadsheet. If you don’t have a spreadsheet notepad will do. Using a spreadsheet will make it easier to organize your keyword list but it is not essential that you use it. It just will be a lot easier using a spreadsheet.

What you want to do is go to Google and type in your keyword phrase using allintitle. Say that you are checking the keyword phrase ‘dog collar’, you would type it in the search like this allintitle:dog collar. To see this example in action Click here. If you look in the top right side of the results you will see that 158,000 web pages are using this keyword phrase in the title. The keyword phrase ‘dog collar’ without looking at how many people have searched that phrase is probably too competitive to use. If you were to make a slight change to that keyword phrase ‘dog collar’ and make it ‘dog shock collar’ you will get a very different result. Click here to see the results for dog shock collar. As you can see the results show that 671 web pages use this keyword phrase and you probably will be able to compete with this keyword.

To determine whether a keyword phrase is too competitive or not, you need to compare how many searches were done for the keyword phrase, against how many results there are for the allintitle search. If the searches are higher than the web page results from your allintitle search, then you have a very good keyword phrase. If it’s the other way around, you are better off not using the phrase as it will be very difficult to get a high ranking for the keyword phrase.

Because the search engines place so much weight on the web page title when ranking a site it is really important to do this if you want to have any chance of getting a high ranking for your keyword phrases. The less competitive the keyword phrase is the better your chances are of getting a good ranking on the search engines. You also will learn a lot about the product that you are promoting by going through this process.

How To Protect Your Download Page

After writing about Fall of the Gurus Manual last week got me thinking about some things to protect yourself from getting ripped off. If you sell your own products you need to have a robots.txt on your domain to protect your download page from being seen by the general surfing community.

A robots.txt is simply a text file that you place in the document root of your domain. What it does is tells the search engine robots what folders not to crawl and index. This is very important in protecting files and folders such as your cgi-bin that you don’t want seen by the general public.

If you promote and sell your own product, you definitely don’t want your download page listed on the search engines for everyone to see. The robots.txt will prevent that from happening.

The robots.txt in itself will not keep people from accessing your download page, it will just stop the search engines from listing it in their index. You need to take additional steps to protect it.

Most marketers, who sell their own products, use third party payment services. Pretty much all of them will require a landing page of some sort to where the consumer will be taken after payment has been made. This means that when the payment has been made the consumer must be sent to either a download page, a thank you page with a link to the download, or some type of instructional page on your domain.

The reason I mention the payment process is because the majority of websites that are compromised, are through these landing pages. If these web pages are not protected in some form they will inevitably be compromised.

Most of the time people who are looking to get stuff for free and can’t find the page that they are looking for in the search engines index will try to guess the most obvious directory and file names to where the download page may be.

My point is, don’t place your download page in an obvious place or give your download page an obvious name such as download/index.html or download/download.html or anything similar that can be easily guessed. Instead, place it several directories deep and use unique names for each directory that can’t possibly be guessed. You can use names that are total nonsense, which is probably the best way to go. Do the same for the download page as well. After all, you are not trying to rank for this page. You are trying to protect it.

If you have a domain other than the one that you are promoting your product from, you could also put your download page using the above method and redirect buyers to a download page on that domain which would further protect your product.

Another thing that you could do is password protect your download page. I used to sell some of my own products online. What I had was a script that would create a password and place that password on the landing page. When the user clicked away from that web page the password would be deleted. Scripts like this are pretty expensive and are really not required if you take the proper steps to protect your download page. If I had it to do again, I wouldn’t have bought that script. It does however add extra security.

Here are some of the things that you should have on your robots text.

  • Your cgi-bin
  • Your image directory
  • Your products directory
  • Any and all scripts that are not in the cgi-bin
  • There may be others that you’ll want to protect. Only you have that answer.

You can create a robots.txt by using an online robots.txt creator. Here’s one that you can use http://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/robots.txt_creator.shtml There are many others. You can run a search to find additional sites that perform this function. You can also create one yourself manually if you’d like. There are several online tutorials that will show you how.

If you haven’t done some or any of the things mentioned here to protect your products, you really should go and take care of it by implementing the procedures mentioned here to protect them.

Day Job Killer is a Joke!

I just got finished reading Day Job Killer and all I can say is WOW! I don’t mean that in a good way. I know that I said that I wasn’t going to buy this but I just couldn’t resist. I had to see for myself what all the noise was about and whether it is as good as everyone says it is.

This ebook is an insult to every legitimate Internet Marketer. The strategies in that ebook are some really dark black hat strategies. Actually the strategies in Day Job Killer give normal black hat a bad name.

I can’t tell you what the strategies are in that ebook because of copyright infringement problems that I would have if I did. I can tell you that this ebook is not cracked up to what it claims to be.

The ebook is very poorly written with so many spelling errors that at times you have a hard time figuring out what some of the words are. The layouts of the strategies really suck and are unlike what the author and his affiliates claim and are very hard to understand. There is not enough detail for any one strategy which makes them very difficult to understand and I’m sure even more difficult to implement. For the most part I had to read them several times to get any kind of understanding at all.

If you are new to pay per click it will be impossible to succeed with the Day Job Killer strategies. Even if you are a seasoned pay per click marketer I guarantee that it will take a lot more work and improving on any given strategy to make any of those strategies work. It makes me shudder with anger every time I think of the claim that Day Job Killer was written for the every day marketing Joe!

Even if you do completely understand the strategies in this ebook I urge you to stay clear of this because I can tell you with almost certainty that it will cost you more in ppc advertising than you can afford or will ever get in return. The shame of it is a lot of get rich quick naive newbies are going to jump on this and run with it and not realize what has happened to them until it’s too late and they are broke.

While I can’t tell you how to do any particular strategy, I can tell you about one, and what it is supposed to do. I remember this particular idea because it infuriated me so much that I wanted to put my fist through my monitor. What it claims to do is to knock off a successful ad campaign that has been running for a long time. In other words make that marketer take his campaign and run for the hills to never be seen again.

I can’t even imagine doing something like this. That PPC marketer got there by probably testing his or her ad and probably has spent a lot of time, money, and effort to get there and then some snake comes along and destroys everything that he or she has worked for. I highly doubt that this works. What infuriated me about the whole thing is that it is being taught in that ebook and there will be a fair percentage of people out there trying it and a few will succeed. Most will fail miserably.

These types of black hat strategies run well for awhile until the search engines put a stop to them and then they die just as fast as they were born. There’s a lot of work involved in getting something like this going and you will have lost a lot of time not to mention all of the work you put into it when the search engines slam the door shut on these tactics. If you haven’t made the money that you wanted to make when this happens, what will you do then? Will you wait for the next fad that comes your way and jump on that too and hope that you’ll do better this time around? If that’s the case, expect to be right where you are right now; a place where you just spin your wheels in the mud.

Black hat marketing hurts everyone, not just the black hat marketers. Crap like this doesn’t serve any purpose except to drive up the already expensive marketing costs to do business online. With crap like this going on all of the time, I am absolutely amazed that people trust enough to buy anything at all online.

In my opinion, the only people who are going to make money with Day Job Killer are the owner of the ebook and the affiliates who were involved with its launch. The rest will lose their shirts.

I guess you have to ask yourself this question. Are you marketing to build a long term online business or are you in it to get rich quick? If you are in it to build a long term business, stick with what you have been doing because you will be get there far sooner than the get rich quick guys out there and you will be far and away more successful. If you are the latter, expect to be exactly where you are right now, but a lot poorer. Comparing Beating Adwords and Day Job Killer

    Blog Blaster Scam

Blog blaster is a submission software that is supposed to submit your ad to 2 million blog sites. The software is a piece of crap and doesn’t do anything that it claims to do. Don’t waste your money on something like this. In my opinion, this software was developed with one thing in mind, to separate people from their money.

Since most blog sites have some kind of plugin that will stop outside submissions should tell you that Blog Blaster is not capable of doing what it claims.

Sebastian Foss, the creator of Blog Blaster, from my own experience and what I have read about him is not exactly the most upstanding Internet citizen. He has also been involved in other crooked schemes as well.

I’ve never used blog blaster myself. What I’m telling you here is what I have read about the software and its creator. From what I’ve read, and what I know, both are pretty bad.

I’ve known about Sebastian Foss for quite awhile because I was on one of his spam lists that I never opted into. I tried to unsubscribe several times from his list but that request was ignored. I ended up having to put a block on his spam mails.

Before I blocked him, I did get an email from Foss about a data entry program that he was promoting. When I ran a Google search on the data entry program followed by the word ’scam’, I found a nice tidy list about the program and that it was nothing but a scam. The program has a money back guarantee that was not honored when people started requesting refunds. Emails went unanswered, and from what I can see, these people never got their money back. You hear the same type of complaints about Blog Blaster as well.

The biggest shocker is that Michael Glaspie endorses Blog Blaster and does so from the Blog Blaster website. You can check out the Blog Blaster sales page here. http://www.blog-blast.com

If you look here you will find the data entry email that Sebastian Foss sent me along with the sales pitch on his website. I submitted this as an article to Ezine Articles a while back as well as posting it on this blog. I removed the program name and Sebastian Foss’s name because I felt that Ezine Articles might reject the submission if I included them.

Anyway, stay away from anything that Sebastian Foss is involved in. Chances are whatever it is that he is selling is probably not on the up and up.

None of these companies charge you to perform data entry for them and you will be engaged in work that is legitimate and legal: entering data for more than 10,000 internet companies who need your help. Even though you get paid for helping these companies with your data entry submissions, you NEVER have to deal with any customers, make any sales pitches, or handle any products. Finally, an offer that delivers big money for very simple work you perform anywhere in the world. If you’re like most people, you’re approaching this information with a healthy dose of skepticism. You’ve seen plenty of offers for making money from home and you and I both know that most of these ‘offers’ don’t really offer much of anything besides a chance for you to lose money. But this system is different. This system is making me thousands of dollars each day and it can do the same for you, too. This system really works. Look at this earnings statement to see what I made in the most recent pay period.

Their Proof Of Earnings was inserted here. Incredible! $1,313.93 for less than an hour’s work each day. And that’s not unusual. Many people in the Company.com network have earning statements that look very similar or even better than mine. Remember, the Company.com system is real. It’s legal. It’s legitimate. And it works. You will never deal with customers in any form and you will be paid twice each month for commissions on products that your data entry converts to sales. Once you join, you’ll have 24/7 access to your account which allows you to input data and track your earnings in real time. Work whenever you want, as much as you want, wherever you can access the internet. It’s really that easy.

Here’s how it works. Three simple steps. 1. Become a member of Company.com. When you join Company.com, you create a member account which gives you access to our special members’ only page. Use the data we provide you in our Members’ Only area to complete the on-line forms. Everything you need is easy to find and easy to use in our Members’ Only area. 3. Make money. That’s it. The more you enter, the more you can earn. And you’ll be rewarded twice each month with a tremendous paycheck.

Amazing, isn’t it? Remember that this is not one of those ‘Work at Home Data Entry Jobs’ that you see plastered all over phone poles and in the back of newspapers and magazines. This is not a job. It’s a unique money making opportunity available to those who want more for less. Of course, I and many of the members of Company.com are making $300 - $1000 per day using the system, but the amount that you actually make will depend entirely on how much you work. If you act now, however, I’ll include in your membership a special report that tells you the secrets of top money makers at Company.com.

Here’s the best part. You’ve got a chance to make big money working at your leisure from your own home as little (or as much) as you want. I’m offering you the chance to make thousands of dollars every day. Some people would pay huge start-up fees or initial investments for the chance to make that kind of money. But you’ve got a chance to make that kind of money for a mere fraction of what I should be charging. No licensing fees. No recurring charges. No inventory to purchase. Hurry. When the opportunities are all filled, the program ends. Don’t get left behind. Join Company.com now because once we have enough people providing data entry services, this program ends. Could I possibly make this any easier for you to make more than ever with less? Time Sensitive Offer! Memberships are now limited. This offer will end soon. JOIN TODAY FOR JUST $97

After reading this I’ll admit that I had my credit card out and was ready to buy this incredible opportunity. Then a little voice in my head told me to stop. This is too good to be true. I went to google and ran a search for company.com scam and low and behold a nice little list of forum posts came up with complaints that this is a scam and that they couldn’t get the refund that they were promised if they weren’t completely satisfied. From what I can tell this supposed system has never delivered on its claims. Many of the people on these forums have issued complaints with the Better Business Bureau. You can contact them online at http://bbb.com.

The point of this article is to be careful of what you buy. Do research before you decide whether or not to buy. Run a search of the company in question followed by the word scam. Also check at http://bbb.com to see if anyone has issued a complaint against them. The light that should go off in your head is, if the offer is too incredible to believe it’s probably a scam. Do the research before you buy. It saved me ninety seven bucks and a lot of headaches.
